The Manchester Municipal Corporation held its first meeting under the leadership of the newly installed Mayor of Mandeville, Councillor Donovan Mitchell on Thursday, January 12, 2017. Among the observers were professor and students from the Miami University, Ohio, USA. The group was visiting the island for their Winter Workshop on Globalization and Democracy in Jamaica.
In making his presentation, Mayor Mitchell said that under his tenure the modus operandi of the new administration was rebuilding trust, mainstreaming integrity and time management.He stressed the timely submission of reports by reportings agencies and officers, making sure that things were properly done and the prompt commencement of Committee meetings. On the matter of building trust, Mayor Mitchell advised that the Corporation would be installing a 1-800-corrupt line for citizens to lodge complaints, report illegal activities, make report on misconduct of officers on the job and also to make suggestions. He stressed that communication was instrumental in building trust and has pledged to make public the plans and projects of the Corporation.
He urged everyone to 'put their best foot forward' in an effort to bring back the Manchester Municipal Corporation to being the premier Corporation in Jamaia..
Newly elected and re-elected Councillors also took their Oath of Office.
