MANDEVILLE: The Ministry of Water, Land, Environment and Climate Change conducted a Consultation on the draft Rural Water Supply Developemnet Strategy (RWSDS) and Action Plan in the Council's Chamber on Monday, February 16, 2015.

The purpose of the consultation was to:
- Introduce the RWSDS to stakeholders, and inform them about the process for drafting and finalizing the Strategy
- Identify area without water supply
- Identify areas with intermittent water service
- Discuss existing various service levels and modalities of service
- Understand teh status of the technical and commercial aspects of the community-based and Parish Council water supplies
- Understand citizen's desired improvements in the current rural water supply situation
- Identify institutional gaps in rural water supply, and potential solutions
It is anticipated that, with the implementation of the water supply Parish Plans, eighty-five percent (85%) of the Island will be supplied with piped water in designated utility service areas. The Development Strategy is expected to augment coverage for the remaining fifteen percent (15%) in non-utility service areas, using different modalities, such as wayside tanks, catchment tanks, entombed springs and trucking.
