Jamaica Constabulary Domestic Violence Intervention Workshop

The Jamaica Constabulary Force in Manchester kickstarted its Domestic Violence Intervention Workshop on June 20,2014 at the Manchester Parish Council. With the every increasing domestic disputes that are currently plaguing the island, the gathering of crime-fighters will be focusing their efforts on raising the awareness of domestic violence to citizens, defining it and how to properly intervene should one notice the tattletale marks of domestic abuse. Among the issues to take the platform during the course of the workshop are cultural and socialization practices which may mask domestic abuse as the normative occurance. Emphasis will also be placed on the nature of domestic violence, the warnings signs, the roots and cycles of domestic abuse and will touch on the victims' experiences who suffer from such extreme circumstances. The cops were lauded by Mayor Brenda Ramsey for noting the concerns of law-abiding citizens and she further charged them to continue to keep such citizens safe. The effort is collaborative as the officers have taken on a wholistic approach which spans multiple agencies inclusive of the support of hospitals and other victim's abuse agencies as they seek empower the community to break the shackles of the scourge of abusive and oppressive happenings. The officers will be focusing their efforts on firstly educating and galvanising themselves as first responders to incidences of domestic violence and will subsequently seek to involve community members who witness and experience domestic abuse.
